Curious about our newest offering at Appleseed?
We wanted to create a holistic, child-led alternative or supplement to traditional school, because we know that it’s been a year! Whether your child has been in and out of in-person schooling, you’ve chosen 100% virtual schooling, explored homeschooling or unschooling, or a combination, it hasn’t been an easy year! So we put our heads together, and Appleseed Yoga School was born! [cue Ross, “PIVOT!”]
So What Does Yoga School Look Like?
Each session includes a 45-minute yoga portion, and a 45-minute exploration portion (science, nature, craft, storytime, etc) connected to the Ontario Curriculum, but (more importantly, in my opinion) connected to life, nature, and social-emotional health. We want our students to actively participate, to be curious and ask questions, to add to the conversations, to explore things like how breath affects our mental state, body awareness and acceptance, our energy and stress levels, healing ourselves, and self-care, to name just a few. It’s these lessons that we hold onto long after the school bell has rang, and into our adult years.
Each week centres around a broad topic, with yoga poses, breathing exercises, inclusive stories, and a nature activity to create and share. We encourage imaginative play, getting messy, critical thinking, and problem-solving, among many other things! We’re currently running these sessions virtually, and you can find out more information about our current session here.
A Little About The Person Behind Our Curriculum
I’m Sara Gallo, Appleseed Co-Owner, Lead Intuition Explorer and Community Sunshine Gatherer. I am an Ontario Certified Teacher, and Certified 500+Hour Yoga Instructor. I have been working with children for most of my life, and have been teaching children yoga since 2016. After graduating from the Concurrent Teaching Program at Nipissing University, I saw how the current norm for schooling in Southern Ontario could leave many students and families feeling lost, and many teachers burnt out and without resources. I create the curriculum and teach our Virtual Yoga School with the intention of building community, resilience, and encouraging children to be the leader of their own learning.
You already know and love our themed-classes in our Virtual Studio, and have raved about our Virtual Camps, so you know your children will love Yoga School too! Register here and join us for one session, or a full month of programming! We know scheduling (especially during a pandemic) can be tricky - so do what fits into your schedule - we would be so happy to have you!
Sending hugs,
Sara
